6 months ago, we launched the first version of Peek. We had a vision of building an AI-powered personal CFO that could give you insights about how your investments are doing, or actionable insights on investing better.
But v1.0 was a far cry from that vision.
How We’ve Grown
When we launched, the app only had one of the four tabs we now have.
It had zero integrations, and you had to manually key in your data. Today, we have integrations with thousands of brokerages and banks worldwide.
At the start, we only had simple calculators and asset allocation pie charts. Today, Peek has AI-powered insights, and performance metrics to see how your portfolio has done.
But these new features weren’t dreamt up on our own. They reflect the tremendous feedback we’ve gotten, from speaking with our growing community of users who manage their portfolios with Peek.
Our weekly active users have grown by 10x! We started with just 17 users in April when we whitelisted the first few pioneers, to now 194 weekly active users in the 3rd batch of our beta program.
What We’ve Learned
Getting here has been a challenging journey for the entire team. We’ve been through multiple pivots and reshuffling of roles and responsibilities. But those challenges have taught us a tremendous amount about the problem space.
Personal finance is deeply fragmented
Different banks, brokerages, crypto wallets, fintech apps - are all fighting to keep users on their platforms, which prevents people from getting a holistic view of their financial lives.
Despite the promise of open banking, very little meaningful progress has been made in most parts of the world, even in “advanced economies” like Singapore.
Personal finance is intensely personal
Many personal finance apps don’t address the unique goals, fears, insecurities, and frustrations people have about managing their money. Everyone wants to make money, but everyone has different preferences around volatility, interest in different asset classes, or life goals.
People want help without feeling inept
Unless you are a finance professional, few people have the time or mental energy after work to think about asset allocation strategies, or how they should re-balance their portfolio in reaction to macroeconomic changes.
People want to have intelligent insights about how they can invest their current portfolio better, without the black box of robo-advisors, or the distrust of salespeople masquerading as “financial advisors”. AI is uniquely positioned to address this.
Looking Ahead
This is still just the beginning for Peek. Over the next few weeks, we will announce several exciting developments.
Talking to users remains incredibly important for us. We are counting down to the last few spots of our beta program - if you’d like to join today, let me know.
